Band
Band is offered for 5th grade (beginning band) and 6-8th grade (advanced band) at Zion to provide students an opportunity to study an instrument of the concert band through group lessons and full band experiences. Band helps participating students have a more well-rounded and fulfilling education, centered on Christ, that includes the Fine Arts through instrumental music instruction. Among music fundamentals, band at Zion helps teach students the concepts of time management, preparation, responsibility, a good work ethic, cooperation and teamwork, listening skills, focus, and non-verbal communication. It also sets the foundation for students to play instruments in ensembles in high school, college, and beyond. Ultimately, we use our instrumental gifts to praise God with and through our music and have fun!
Each week at Zion, band students are provided one group lesson by grade and an extended full band rehearsal. Throughout the year, our bands play at various events at Zion (Veteran’s Day, Christmas, Fine Arts Festival, etc.) as well as combining with other Lutheran bands in the area to perform together at Metro East Lutheran HS’s annual Christmas Concert. Students are also offered the opportunity for multiple individual opportunities, including various honor bands and solo competition.
