Easter Break:  No School Thursday, April 18th, Friday, April 19th and Monday, April 22nd.  

K-5th Grade Spring Musical:  Our K-5 musical this year is “iAm”, a musical about getting to know the God who made us better even with all the distractions around us.  The performance will be on Friday, May 3 at Metro East Lutheran High School in Edwardsville.  The show begins at 7:00 p.m. and students should be in the cafeteria no later than 6:45.  Doors will open no earlier than 6:30.   Students in K-4 should wear white shirts with denim or black bottoms.  Any parents are welcome to help with the set.  We will be working on the set and props on April 23rd from 6-8pm at Zion.  Please let Mrs. Lorenz or Mrs. Densmore know if you can help with this.   

3rd and 4th Graders: We are starting a NEW youth group at Zion Church just for 3rd and 4th Graders! This group is called Faith Finders, and we will meet in the school gym on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5-6:30pm starting tonight, April 17th. Athletic Awards Ceremony:  On Tuesday, May 7th at 2 pm in the church sanctuary, we will recognize and honor our student athletes in an all school assembly.  Athletic certificates and pins will be sent home with students that week.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Track and Field Pep Assembly will be Thursday, May 16th at 2:20 pm in the school gym.  We will do a send-off for our athletes participating in the state track meet that weekend, as well as a special 8th grade recognition for our 8th graders, Zachary Fitzgerald, Deja Robinson and Cody Steele.

Librarian’s Needed:  Volunteers are needed in the library for the upcoming school year.  Library is every Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday).   The times are either 8am to 10am or 8am to 12Noon.  Any help is appreciated!  Please pass on to grandparents!  

Lunch/Milk:  As the school year winds down, please remember that there are no lunch or milk refunds at the end of the year.  Please buy according to what your child will use.  There are 21 day of hot lunches and milk left in the school year.  (Don’t forget to subtract any field trip days.)   Lunches are $3.20 and milk is $.35.

Student Council Hawaiian Day:  On Friday, April 26th students are encouraged to wear flowered shirts and sunglasses for Hawaiian day.

Papa John’s Fundraiser:  Our last Papa John’s day for this school year is Tuesday, April 30th.   You will need promo code SSZ001 when placing your order.  All you have to do is place an order at the Wood River or Alton Papa John’s and give them our school promo code and the school will receive a portion of the profit.

4th Quarter Chapel Offerings:  Thank you to everyone who dontated to the family of Jacob “Jake” Ringering.  Our chapel offerings totaled $502.65!

After Easter break and until the end of the year, we will be collecting change for Thrive Metro East (formerly Options Now pregnancy center).  Look for the baby bottles to be coming home.  You can send them back filled with change until the last day of school.  

Preschool and K-8 Spring Pictures:  Spring Pictures have been sent home!  You have the option to purchase the pictures or return the uncut pictures to the school office.

Preschool Registration:  Register now for the 2019-2020 preschool year.   Registration fees paid before May 31st will receive a 10% discount.   Forms have been sent home or may be downloaded from the school website (zlsbethalto.org). 

Summer Camp News!  We are gearing up for another fun summer at Zion!  To add some variety, additional field trip locations have been added to the Junior 2 and Elementary camps. Junior 2 campers (going into kindergarten through having completed 1st grade) will alternate between the park or bowling on Tuesdays and the splash pad or bounce house on Fridays.   Elementary campers (completed 2nd grade through completed 6th grade) will alternate between skating or going to the park on Mondays and the bounce house or bowling on Wednesdays and swimming every Thursday.  Our Junior 1 Campers (3 and 4 year olds) don’t go on field trips but will have many fun things planned for them!  Summer Camp will run from May 28th – August 2ndThe information sheet and enrollment forms are attached or you may contact the school office for an enrollment packet to be sent home.

Part-Time Custodian Needed: Zion Lutheran School is looking for a part-time custodian to help keep our school in tip-top shape.  The position would report to our head custodian, Angela Seeley, and to Principal Snyder. The person serving in this position would work approximately 20 hours a week with regular working hours of between 4:00 to 8:00pm (although there is some room for negotiation into the regular start and end time). Primary job responsibilities would be cleaning classrooms and bathrooms in a portion of the school building. There would be increased hours during the summer months as the custodian team makes the school ready for the following school year. The person seeking this position would need to submit to a full background check. Interested parties should contact the school office, to receive more information and/or secure an application. 

Part-Time Marketing and Recruitment Manager: Zion Lutheran School has been awarded a grant to allow us to immediately hire a part-time (20/week) Marketing and Recruitment Manager. The ideal candidate would have a passion for Zion Lutheran School, have some marketing experience, exhibit an outgoing personality with strong written and oral communication skills, and be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite. Graphic design experience would be a plus. Interested individuals should contact the school office for more information and/or secure an application. A resume’ outlining applicable experience would be appreciated.

Thursday:  Chicken Nuggets, Mac N Cheese, Tossed Side Salad, Power Peas, Pineapple

Friday:  Toasted Ravioli, Meat Sauce, X-Ray Vision Carrots, Ranch Dressing, Banana

A yogurt plate (yogurt, granola topping, cheese Stick) is available in place of the entrée.  

Fruit and vegetable are included with the yogurt plate.   

Chef Salads available for 6th, 7th and 8th Grade students.
